April 2, 2024 – Los Angeles, CA – CBS and The Golden Globe® Awards announced today that the 82ND ANNUAL GOLDEN GLOBE® AWARDS, the first major award show of the season, will air Sunday, January 5, 2025 (8:00-11:00 PM, live ET/5:00-8:00 PM, live PT) on the CBS Television Network, and stream on Paramount+ in the U.S. (live and on-demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on-demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the special airs)*. The January 2025 broadcast begins a five-year deal to broadcast the awards show on CBS.

Nominations for the Golden Globe Awards will take place Monday, December 9, 2024.

CBS’ recent broadcast of the 81ST ANNUAL GOLDEN GLOBE® AWARDS on Sunday, Jan. 7 averaged 10 million viewers (Nielsen Live+7-Day national ratings), up nearly +50% from last year, its largest audience since 2020. The telecast was also the third-largest live-streamed CBS special event on Paramount+ ever in terms of AMA and reach.

The Golden Globe Awards, often referred to as Hollywood’s “Biggest Party of the Year®,” is a major night on the calendar for live viewing. It is also the largest awards show in the world to celebrate the best of both film and television.

CBS and the Golden Globes® Announce a New Five-Year Deal

March 25, 2024 – LOS ANGELES – CBS and The Golden Globe® Awards announced today a new five-year deal to broadcast the awards show on the Network and stream live on Paramount+. The new agreement kicks off with the January 2025 broadcast.

CBS’ recent broadcast of the 81ST ANNUAL GOLDEN GLOBE® AWARDS on Sunday, Jan. 7 averaged 10 million viewers (Nielsen Live+7-Day national ratings), up nearly +50% from last year, its largest audience since 2020. The telecast was also the third-largest live-streamed CBS special event on Paramount+ ever in terms of AMA and reach.

Golden Globes Winners Announced

Last night, the 81st Annual Golden Globe® Awards hosted by stand-up comedian and actor Jo Koy aired live on CBS and streaming on Paramount+ from The Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles. The star-studded evening kicked off awards season and featured big wins for “Oppenheimer,” “Success,” “The Bear,” and “Beef.”

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Lily Gladstone – the standout star of “Killers of the Flower Moon” and the first Indigenous person to win a Golden Globe for Best Actress – delivered a moving acceptance speech. She began by speaking in the Blackfoot language, paying homage to her Native American heritage. She dedicated her award to Native American children with dreams, highlighting the importance of representation in the industry.
  • “Barbie” received recognition not only for its creative storytelling but also for its impressive box office performance, winning the new award for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement. Actor and producer Margot Robbie and director Greta Gerwig expressed their heartfelt appreciation for the success of “Barbie” and its resonance with audiences. Gerwig noted the significance of the award and they emphasized that the film was not just about Barbie but also about the human experience, creating a deeper connection with viewers.
  • Billie Eilish opened up about her personal struggles and emotional journey while working on the award-winning song “What Was I Made For” for “Barbie.” Her candid reflection resonated with the audience, showcasing the vulnerability behind her creative endeavors.
  • Taylor Swift, whose film was up for the new Cinematic and Box Office Achievement Award, made a surprise appearance at the show, closing down the red carpet.
  • Emma Stone and “Poor Things” director Yorgos Lanthimos engaged in a delightful on-stage banter after the film clinched the award for Best Motion Picture. Lanthimos humorously thanked rock legend Bruce Springsteen, who was in the audience, for influencing his upbringing.

  • On the heels of the final season of his hit show “Succession,” Kieran Culkin won his first Golden Globe for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Series. The star remarked about how, when he was a nominee as a kid (for “Igby Goes Down” in 2003), he never thought he’d be back on the Golden Globes stage, sharing a touching acknowledgment of his journey in the industry.
  • Paul Giamatti delivered an emotional and heartwarming acceptance speech for Best Male Actor in a Musical or Comedy Motion Picture. He expressed gratitude and respect for teachers, emphasizing the challenges they face in their profession.

Also, with her respective win, Wong became the first Asian actor to win a Golden Globe for any limited series.

Part 2 was the evening’s No. 1 entertainment program in primetime in both Total Viewers (10.4 million) and Adults 18-49 (2.93 rating).

Airing at 11:30 p.m., the first late-night segment of ABC’s “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2024” attracted 18.0 million Total Viewers and averaged a 5.33 rating among Adults 18-49. ABC’s annual New Year’s Eve special drew in 22.2 million Total Viewers and hit a 6.41 Adult 18-49 rating in the midnight quarter-hour.

Part 1 shot up over the prior year’s broadcast by 30% in Total Viewers (18.0 million vs. 13.8 million) and by 30% among Adults 18-49 (5.33 rating vs. 4.11 rating).

New Year’s Rockin’ Eve is also introducing a new vertical of comedic show segments with Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias, Matt Friend, Ms. Pat and Sebastian Maniscalco joining the show for hilarious commentary on the past year.

Innovative content creator, Airrack will end his current “30 Videos in 30 Days” series by traversing New York City and making a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS® attempt for visiting the most fast food restaurants in 24 hours. Airrack will make the record attempt even more challenging by only visiting counter-service pizza shops. LOS ANGELES, December 21, 2023 – Today, the Golden Globes® announced that premier stand-up comedian and actor Jo Koy will kick off award season as host of the highly-anticipated 81st Annual Golden Globe® Awards, airing live on CBS and streaming on Paramount+ on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT (live and on demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the special airs). Koy will host the show for the first time, bringing his unique charm, energy, and unpredictable humor to the three-hour broadcast.

Koy is widely recognized as a leading stand-up comedian, actor and author. His recent “Funny Is Funny World Tour” broke sales records at some of the most prestigious venues around the world. Previously, he released five highly-rated stand-up specials on Comedy Central and Netflix, including his most recent Netflix special, Live From The Los Angeles Forum.

Koy starred in the Universal Picture film Easter Sunday, based on his own experiences and stand-up comedy. He has also appeared in Disney’s Haunted Mansion and voiced the character Bendo in Netflix’s animated film Monkey King. He’ll next be voicing the character of The Monkey King in the animated feature film, Tiger’s Apprentice premiering on Paramount+ February 2, 2024. Additionally, Koy released his first autobiography, Mixed Plate: Chronicles of an All-American Combo, in 2021 with Harper Collins Publishers to rave reviews.

Nominations Announced for 81st Annual Golden Globe Awards

LOS ANGELES, December 11, 2023 – Today, the Golden Globes® announced the nominees of the 81st Annual Golden Globe® Awards, which will air live on CBS and stream on Paramount+ on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. The nominations were announced by Cedric “The Entertainer” and Wilmer Valderrama who presented nominees for each of the 27 award categories.

Multi-Emmy Award®-winning producing duo Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner of White Cherry Entertainment (WCE) will serve as executive-producing showrunners for the 81st Annual Golden Globe Awards, with Weiss also set to direct. Produced and owned by Dick Clark Productions, the Golden Globe Awards has been viewed in more than 200 countries and territories worldwide and is one of the few awards ceremonies to include both motion picture and television achievements.
